The high-voltage, high-current, reusable electronic fuse FA7641 with reverse current protection function goes on the market

Hsinchu, July 16, 2025 -- Fortune Advanced Technology today launched its high-voltage, high-current electronic fuse (eFuse) FA7641 with reverse current protection function
The 34V electronic fuse (eFuse) product series of Fortune Advanced Technology includes the FA7641 and FA7642 which support various functions required for circuit protection in power supply lines. For more information, please refer to “Home > Products > eFuse > 34V eFuse”.
The most significant feature of this IC is that it can be used repeatedly.
Conventional thermal fuses (glass tube fuses and chip-type fuses) protect power line circuits by fusing the built-in alloy parts due to Joule heat when the current exceeds the rated value. However, these thermal fuses have some shortcomings, such as slow fusing time, indefinite breaking current, and the need for replacement work once they are broken. Unlike conventional fuses, electronic fuses have a fast current blocking function, because the built-in MOSFET is quickly turned off when excessive current flows. Based on the above reasons, they will not be destroyed by a single over-current event and can be reset and reused. Therefore, these products can reduce maintenance costs and shorten repair time.
The second feature is that it can also merge various protection functions such as over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, and short-circuit protection. When over-voltage, severe overheating or unexpected short-circuit occurs, it can immediately cut off the power.
The third feature is that eFuse achieves much simpler circuit designs with fewer components and a smaller PCB board area than discrete components.
The fourth feature is that this eFuse can be used in an ultra-wide power supply input voltage range of 4.5V to 30V, and the absolute maximum ratings of the input/output voltage are up to 36V.
The fifth feature is that the FA7641 is a low RDS(ON) electronic fuse capable of driving continuous high currents up to 5A.
The sixth feature is that the over-current threshold can be set by an external resistor, which is more accurate than a thermal fuse.
The seventh feature is that the overvoltage threshold can be set through an external resistor to prevent excessive voltage from being applied to the load.
The eighth feature is that it provides an open drain output to signal interrupts when over current protection, over voltage protection, short circuit protection, reverse current protection, or over temperature protection is triggered.
The ninth feature is that it provides control signal output to notify the next-stage power supply that its output voltage has reached the normal level.
The tenth feature is that it provides a reverse current blocking function when the FA7641 is disabled and a reverse current protection function when the FA7641 is enabled. The FA7641 power switch consists of 2 back-to-back connected N-channel MOSFETs. When the power switch is turned off, the back-to-back cascaded body diodes of MOSFETs can prevent current from the output port to the input port. When the switch is turned on, whenever the output voltage exceeds the input voltage by 50mV, the FA7641 will turn off the power path immediately.
The eleventh feature is that it integrates fast role swap(FRS) function which can support swap from UFP to DFP in 150μs to meet USB PD specification. It also supports Power MUX applications. When VOUT drops 40mV below VIN, the power path turns on instantly and pulls VOUT above VIN-40mV within 100μs.

Combining the above perfect features, this series of products can provide strong protection for electronic equipment such as Industrial PCs, networked communication/set-top boxes, and notebook computers.
This product lineup provides auto-retry type of products, that is, the efuse recovers the circuit by itself. The power switch periodically performs soft start process until the over current protection condition is removed.

Package and availability
The FA7641 is now available through authorized distributors in the QFN2x3-8L package. Full and custom quantity reels are available.

About Fortune Advanced Technology
Fortune Advanced Technology Co., Ltd. was established in 2013 focusing on high-voltage mixed-signal power management solutions. We dedicate to meeting the emerging requirements for lower power consumption at the standby stage.
We have successfully developed the first application-oriented PMIC for TV/Monitor TV/STB applications.
It is a digitally controlled multichannel PMIC capable of achieving total 0.15Watt standby power consumption under 230VAC for the whole TV system, which is at the forefront of the IC design industry. Based on this technology, we have successively developed diverse and competitive products widely used in LCD TV, motherboards/AIO, networked communication devices/STB, notebooks computers, and other fields.
We hope to grow into the best power partner to provide high-efficiency and cost-effective power solutions to our customers. Aware of the adverse effects of global warming, we will continue to strive for energy saving.
